China - Prayer

In the text below – an extract from a longer e-mailing of today – you can read Prayer items also about China from a Swedish Prayer Operation. It is called Intercessors Network run by Lars Widerberg, a good friend of mine, living in Linkoping, Sweden. He is serving prayer groups and churches all over the world. Intercessors engaged in this prayer operation in more than 5000 prayer groups and churches in 120 nations. The networking factor increases and multiplies the number to a degree beyond estimation. And Lars Widerberg says: - Please, take part as watchmen reporting events in need of prayer cover – send articles found on the web and elsewhere or your own writings.

SHORT NOTES-mailing # 455
March 15, 2006
Items and issues to watch carefully in prayer and to ponder as to
their implications in relation to the fellowship and increase in Christ.

ARRESTED CHURCH MEMBERS IN ANHUI RELEASED
Christian Literature Not Returned
China Aid Association learned that Shortly after CAA called for the immediate release of the innocent Christian leaders and students, the 36 were released in the evening of the same day of the raid. However, the 10,000 copies of the unlawfully confiscated Christian literature were not returned. Instead, they were given to a government committee, which will rule whether or not they are “illegal literature.” The released students will continue their class today.
CAA also learned that a top provincial PSB official who directs the crackdown campaign decided to release the Christian leaders and students after increasing international pressure.
The 36 students and leaders were taken into custody on March 1st, 2006 (Beijing Time) in Huaibei City, Anhui Province. The school was raided by officers of the Chinese Public Security Bureau (PSB).
CHINA IGNORES NEW RELIGIOUS RIGHTS, KEEPS RESTRICTING WORSHIP
One year after China introduced new regulations on religious rights, freedom to worship remains restricted, according to a quote from a human rights group in a March 1 Reuters news story. The rules that took effect in March 2005 enshrine religious belief as a basic right of all citizens, but China still forbids worship outside designated religious organizations, fearing the growth of groups that could challenge Communist Party rule.
“Local officials continue to repress religious activities that they determine to be outside the scope of the state-controlled religious system,” the New York-based Human Rights Watch said in a statement. Catholics who worship outside the state-backed Catholic Patriotic Association, Muslim Uighurs, Tibetan Buddhists and Protestant house churches are among those that risk punishment for practicing their religions.

CHINESE CITIES - Mianyang
The 2,100-year-old city of Mianyang (pronounced mee-AN-yahng) in north-central Sichuan Province is rapidly growing as people move into the city from the surrounding countryside in hopes of finding work and a better standard of living. But despite its population of over 1.2 million people, Mianyang’s agricultural economy gives it a distinctly rural feel.
Several years ago, more than 100,000 workers in Mianyang took part in a huge demonstration after their factories went bankrupt. The army was called in to forcefully suppress the demonstrations, resulting in a massive number of arrests and injuries. Hospital employees were told not to treat the injured demonstrators, who were regarded by the authorities as “state enemies.” The distrust that still exists between the workers and authorities underscores the city’s need for lasting peace.

R E F L E C T I O N
The Swedish - with the global – Christianity will stand together with our brothers and sisters in China. Word of God says: - Love must be sincere. Hate what is evil; cling to what is good. Be devoted to one another in brotherly love. Honour one another above yourselves. Never be lacking in zeal, but keep your spiritual fervour, serving the Lord. Be joyful in hope, patient in affliction, faithful in prayer.
